Topps have given collectors a first look at a new variation card that will be released in their 2025 Baseball Series One set, and it’s an awesome nod to one of The Hobby’s most infamous error cards.
Many collectors who were around in the 80s/90s will remember Frank Thomas’ “No Name” card from the 1990 Topps Baseball release.
Everything was fine with the card, which featured an image of “The Big Hurt”, apart from his name was missing from the blue nameplate in the bottom right corner.

Topps eventually corrected the mistake, but not before copies of the now Hall of Famer, and two-time MVP’s rookie card were already printed and distributed.
Now, copies of the famous error version not only have an extra allure about them, but are scarce. Considering it was released when the Junk Wax Era was in full swing, the error card can be considered extremely rare for its era.
The mistake itself, alongside the player that’s featured, plus the rarity of it, all contribute to making it one of the most famous, and most valuable, error cards of all time.
A PSA 10 graded copy of the Frank Thomas error rookie sold for $170,400 in 2024.
Fast-forward to 2025, and Topps have fully embraced their error from 35 years ago, by releasing “No Name” variation cards in their Series One set.

All 100 players will have a “No Name” variation in the release, which adopts the same design (and ‘error’) as the Frank Thomas classic from 1990, with the addition of a special 35th anniversary logo.
Each card will be limited to exactly 35 copies each.
I think this is awesome, let me know what you think in the comments below!
