Few athletes have impacted sports quite like Michael Jordan.

He’s widely regarded as the greatest basketball player of all time, and his legendary career with the Chicago Bulls produced countless iconic moments, plus an equally legendary lineup of sports cards.

Elite collectors and investors have pushed the prices of Jordan’s rarest and most desirable cards into the millions, with several record-breaking sales cementing his place among the most valuable athletes in the hobby.

Rookie cards, game-used memorabilia cards, and one-of-one Exquisite masterpieces have all played a role in reshaping the high-end market – here are his 10 most expensive basketball cards ever sold.

The 10 Most Valuable MJ Cards of All Time

Each card appears only once on the list, based on its highest recorded sale, even if multiple copies could rank in the top 10 (unless it’s a different parallel version).

*The list is based on data from multiple sources, including Market Movers*

10. 1997-98 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems Green Michael Jordan #23

Highest Sale: December 2020 - $915,000 (PSA Authentic)

The Precious Metal Gems parallels from Metal Universe are some of the most popular cards from the 1990s.

In the 1997 Metal Universe set, players had 100 PMG cards – the first 10 were green foil and the remaining 90 were red.

The green cards are unsurprisingly more valuable, given their extra rarity, but that doesn’t mean the red cards are not valuable and highly sought-after as well.

9. 1984-85 Star Michael Jordan #101

1984-85 Star Michael Jordan #101

Highest Sale: May 2024 - $925,000 Private Sale (PSA 9)

While it isn’t generally as popular as his 1986 Fleer card, the 1984 Star (#101) is considered by many to be MJ’s true rookie card.

PSA didn’t grade the card from the early ’90s through 2022 because of concerns about reprinted copies being passed off as originals. However, the card is accepted again now for grading and its stature has grown in recent times.

High-graded copies are incredibly scarce and hold huge value – the record sale was a private sale, confirmed with transaction documents. There are reports of a 7-figure private sale, but that hasn’t been verified.

Jordan appeared in the base checklist of 22 different jersey cards that were extremely tough pulls in Series 1 packs. Even more elusive were the 23 autographed versions released in Series 2, with Jordan standing as the only player in the set to receive a signed jersey card.
