Rare Joe Doyle T206 Error Card Becomes The Latest Sports Card To Sell For Over $1m

Collectibles marketplace Robert Edward Auctions announced on Sunday that a super-rare T206 Joe Doyle error card has sold for a record-breaking $1.323 million.

The latest addition to the hobby’s million dollar card club is one of a few copies of the 1910 Piedmont Cigarettes T206 Joe Doyle ‘N.Y. NAT’L’ cards that are in existence.

An error, which incorrectly lists Doyle as a member of the National League, was discovered early by The American Tobacco Company, who were responsible for the distribution of T206 cards, and only around 10 copies are believed to have been printed.

The extreme scarcity of the card makes it far rarer than the famous T206 Honus Wagner card, which has a record sale of $7.25 million, and is the current second most valuable sports card of all-time.

The card was graded with SGC and achieved a grade of 3.5 (VG+), before being auctioned with Robert Edward Auctions, who specialize in baseball collectibles.

The bidding started with REA at $250,000, and 48 bids took the final sale price to $1,323,000.
